FZ750 FAQ

Q1. What point should I take care about when I buy a second-hand FZ?

Q2. How can I get the parts of a FZ (a solo seat cowl, a grab bar, etc.) or a work shop manual?

Q3. I want to know if I have major modification to do to put a FZR 1000 1988 engine in my FZ 750. (by Carl and others)

Q4. I'd like to know how can my FZ get more power? Tell me the easy way of modification.

Q5. How can I restrain the vibration of my FZ? I have heavy mechanical noise.

A1. I advise you to look over the electric starter in buying the FZ.
If the spring of the starter doesn't work well, it cost you much money to fix it; because the spring cannot be changed unless the engine is taken apart. My FZ is secondhand, and when I bought it the starter was out of order. So I claimed the shop fix it and I made them fix my bike for free. After all, the engine was overhauled and it has worked very well.

A3. You don't have to make any major modification to your bike to make the engine fit. The engine cases are identical. I have the FZR1000 -88 engine in my FZ -85 and it works very well. You need:
1). Complete engine with carburettors, ignition box and coils.
2). Oil cooler and hoses. I use a setrab cooler with home made brackets.
3). If you use the stock water cooler you have to change the plumbing a bit.
4). The stock airbox will fit if you shape the corners a bit with a heat gun.
5). I now use a D&D full exhaust system, but the original 1000 system also fits.
6). A better chain.
The best part is that the bike looks stock, but will give about 120 hp at the rear wheel. I also use the FZR 1000 -87 swing arm and rear wheel to fit a more modern tire. I have made the first test run with the keihin FCR 39's and it looks promising, but I need to build a new airbox before I proceed with getting the jetting correct.

A4. To get more power you need to install a good exhaust and a carburation set{ various jets } thats the easy way.
I believe the american models are fitted with plugged carbs ?
An ignation box also is an easy way to get more power and revs[13500].
No problem with good bearings and connectionrods.

A5. The conection rods of the FZ are the weakest part of the whole bike. It will be better when you increase the oil pressure after you overhauld the engine, maybe with a little luck you only need new bearings.
